I spent the afternoon musing on Life. If you come to think of it, what a queer thing Life is! So unlike anything else, don't you know, if you see what I mean.

From the train to Sacramento 2007

Posted to Flickr afterwards.

From the train to Sacramento Saturday

I like the part where we're right on the bay.

(Alas, Flickr had a problem over the weekend. I tried to upload all these as we traveled for your vicarious enjoyment, but no such luck. It was The Weekend o' Dinah's Rye from Thursday.)

My Wii number is [something I used to have back when this post was written on Vox].

Come on my Wii-owning friends, send me your codes. (Matt H., yours is already in because I found your old post with it).

Like being in a marble room with a parquet floor after the bustling flavors like dust motes in a working haybarn that is the Rittenhouse.

Smuggery in the birthday season 2007

It's truly gratifying to be carded - in New Orleans no less - when you're got double the necessary years to go into a place.

(My jealous friends remarked "Well, you noticed that lady did have very thick glasses", but I found the security person quite perceptive).

Workers on the roof below 2007

I noticed these guys up there - usually not in yellow slickers - at least twice a day every day I was here.

Another rainy end-of-lunchtime and another big boat passing by 2007

Pretty paddleboat heading past, presumably on a river tour

more boats in the distance on the other side of the land

and then, 10 or 15 minutes later, it's raining so hard I can barely see the other side of the river

Hello, rain.

Mr. B's Bistro, Royal Street, New Orleans 2007

trio of soups and a Sazerac from bartender Patrick at Mr. B's Bistro on Royal Street

Good, but not that different from the trio that I had at Acadiana in Washington, D.C. a few weeks ago. Whether that's high praise for them or lower marks for Mr. B's, I'm not sure.

The Sazerac was very good, but the high water mark for that remains the one Gary Regan made me at Absinthe at the party for the end of Cocktail Week.

Blog (noun) A weblog or similar brief journal usually containing links and commentary thereon. Term coined by Peter Merholz.

Visit Typepad or Blogger to start your own. (I began with hand coding, then switched to Blogger when it first became available, then to Movable Type when I wanted more control over my weblog and to have it hosted at a place of my choosing (Hurricane Electric). Since 06/2003 I've used Typepad, a hosted service built by the same folks who made Movable Type, which I love because I don't have to maintain the underlying system).
