"I don't have a basement, I guess I'll get a typewriter."
Overheard conversation in an airport between a guy who works on the bomb disposal team and another traveler, talking about his work:
You know, it's a lot of fun if you do it right. You just can't make any mistakes.

I love the two screens here rotating through old snapshots of staff and customers
(Um, the other screen is off to my right. And there's a third screen with the Cartoon Network playing up at the front of the restaurant.)
a break from the rain at lunch 2007
nice birdsong as I walked to lunch; maybe a blackbird
pretty sunshine & clouds, but big grey clouds around in other directions, so I expect more rain later

Can they get stupider? Yep.
Do not miss this excellent post by Anil Dash, Holding A Gun To Dick Clark's Head, and the fantastic video included in it from Jay Smooth of hiphopmusic.com
"D.J. Drama does not make counterfeit CDs...What D.J. Drama does is produce an original new CD working directly with the artists to make new original songs and remixes along with some upcoming album tracks sometimes. But, again, he's working directly with the artist on this and at the very least he's working with the tacit approval of the record labels."
Hey, big 5 labels, slapping down your most passionate users and promoters is a damn good way to accelerate the demise of your business, and at this rate ain't no one gonna be sorry to see you go.

I often get a little wistful at the end of the weekend, but today I'm exceptionally content. I really got a lot of things done and yet also relaxed a lot. I even got in a nap today!
Work week? Okay, I can do that.

Favorite bit of "French For Cats" by Henry Beard
I think I am going to cough up a fur ball.
Je crois que je vais crachet une boule de poils.
Such a useful phrase!
2nd favorite thing in "French For Cats" by Henry Beard
Useful phrase: The Things That Are Not, Strictly Speaking, Cat Toys, But Which Nevertheless Have Great Play Value.
Autograph & rat doodle by Neil Gaiman in Coraline
I got this at Cody's when Neil read the whole thing aloud at a cool church near there a few years back.

A logo that makes me smile
The last F/X: The Club t-shirt (front, small)
sweet Exploding Dog t-shirt
shirt from bigWhoop, a defunct SF music mag I've never seen
but the shirt cracked me up so much - and it was fun to wear on certain occasions - that I rescued it from my friend Fil's discardia. Alas, it is too big and it now has a bad coffee stain. Bye bye, bigWhoop!
That beautiful logo
And a ridiculously fun tagline on the back
Better signage - at last! 2007
Kind of interesting leather dining chairs at Ross for $80 2007
This is top floor of the one at 4th & Market in San Francisco. Behind these 4 (which seem to have a slight color difference between the pairs), there is another design with a sort of roll at the top. Less modern, a nod more gentleman's club. Didn't notice price on those.

great sashimi plate, this after several pieces eaten
Really a good deal. Nice fish.
Gangsta roll and pretty nigiri pieces
Littlemill, our only lowland scotch at the party
Fine, but not impressed.
Admirable, but sharp and not really to my taste.
Auchriosk 1993, Murray McDavid bottling
Pink and pretty. I'd buy this one.
at the single malt whisky tasting
Bruichladdich Yellow Submarine (1991)
Very good. I actually found this one bloomed more without the water. First taste full of honey, then changes to be completely other. One to get to know.
Definitely on the "Buy" list.
Highland Park 12
Good, but a bit pinched. Not flirty.
Penderyn, Welsh single malt
Nice. Not my first choice but far from my last.
Like Springbank with the volume turned almost all the way down.
Min Jung Kim was right of course, glorious stuff.
The Macallan 18
Oh it's good, yes, but not my first choice.
This seemed a good deal better than my bottle and another woman I was talking with at the party concurred. She said that in a few more years what they'll then be bottling as the new 18 will be primo stuff, much as the ever so tasty 12 year you can get now has been.
Oak Cross, Malt Scotch Whisky, a blend of single malts
Good for drinking, but not inspiring
Bowmore 18 (Trader Joe's Single Malt Collection)
Nice. From what I hear a good deal for an older batch.
Very pleasing. Nicer with water.
Caol Ila 1990 single cask (MacKillop's Choice)
Another winner. On the shopping list.
The master single malt.
Wow. Even better. I must buy this.
Support a cyber cafe in Kenya 2007
I just made another investment through Kiva and I'm really excited about this one. In November of 2005 I visited Nakuru in Kenya while on a tour with Guerba Travel.
I was very pleased, therefore, to see that I could make a microloan to Mr. Samwel Kagotho to help him purchase new equipment for his cybercafe in Nakuru. He's a little over halfway to his goal, so maybe you should consider investing too!
Hooray! The money has been raised! Check the sidebar for another worthy business somewhere around the world that could use your help.
